New Client Dinner
This was our first ever New Client Dinner. We wanted to take the opportunity to welcome aboard our newest clients which included all those who joined McClelland Financial Group from July 2017-September 2018.
The dinner was hosted at the historic Sunnybrook Estates, McClean House. McClean house was the home of the McClean family, the founders of Canada Packers. The house dates back to 1928 when George Moorehouse in collaboration with King and Associates were commissioned to build the Georgian-style mansion that appears today on a sprawling 50 acres of land. As late as 1966 a McClean still occupied the home, which was later donated to the Sunnybrook Hospital. It is said that a friendly ghost still roams the upper third floor- although we had no encounters. An especially lovely bonus was that all proceeds from this and any other event are used fund medical research at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Clients enjoyed cocktails in the Library and a three course dinner in the Mahogany Dining Room.

Pay attention to more than just gifts when setting your holiday budget this year
I think it’s safe to say that we are in the full swing of the Christmas season. Snow on the ground (yes, it’s still November), Christmas movies on 24 – 7, Starbucks decked out in all its festive glory and finally, Christmas Lists for Santa.
This past weekend, I had the distinct pleasure of scribing for my youngest daughter as she recited her incredibly humble list for Santa. Now, for those who have yet to experience this, it’s not without its moments -- I didn’t think that kids were too specific about baby dolls but apparently mine is. She would like “a big baby, a small baby and a teenie weenie baby".
This being said, it’s easy to see how people can overspend at holiday time. But, it’s like everything else, go in with a plan and stick to it. Budgets are a necessity. However, take your budget and add 5 – 10% to it for the inevitable overages that will occur (i.e. lunches with co-workers, baby sitters for events, extra charitable donations, etc.) As discussed in this Globe and Mail article by Craig Wong, overspending doesn’t just happen for gifts. Budgeting will help us avoid debt after the holidays. Wouldn’t that be a nicer way to start the new year?!?!
